About the Artist
ARTIST BIO
Born and raised in Portland Jean has been doing art all her life. She is mainly self-taught but has taken a wide variety of art classes and has studied under several well-known artists throughout the years.
Although she has 2 degrees in business and has worked full time in various jobs over the years she has always devoted her evenings and weekends to art. She started out doing cartoons for friends then progressed to oils - doing portraits, landscapes and still life. Watercolor has been her focus for the last several years but recently she added acrylics to her list of favorite mediums. Bright colors and happy subjects are characteristics of her work.
Jean has won several awards, taught a variety of classes and has been involved in several art organizations such as Watercolor Society of Oregon and Northwest Watercolor Society of which she is a signature member. Her work hangs in several public and private collections.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is a celebration of the simple joys found in nature and everyday life. Through vibrant, warm colors, I seek to evoke feelings of happiness and calm, bringing light and energy to any space. My love for patterns, designs, shadows, and shapes plays a central role in my creative process, often weaving together a sense of rhythm and harmony in each piece.
Watercolor allows me to create moments of softness and tranquility and to explore both gentle hues and energetic bursts of color. Acrylics, on the other hand, give me the boldness to make stronger statements, creating contrast and movement that demands attention. I often draw from impressionism to infuse a sense of magic into my work, inviting the viewer to experience a personal connection with the scenes I paint. Ultimately, my goal is simple: If my art brings a smile to your face or brightens your day, then I have succeeded.
